The The Hearing Loss Association of Florida, Inc. (HLAA-FL) website is one of the most visited and comprehensive sites related to hearing loss throughout the State of Florida. We are under the national umbrella of The Hearing Loss Association of America headquartered in Rockville, MD.

We strive to provide our audience with the latest information on products, services, research, and technology in the hearing health care field. Our visitors and members look for practical and useful information. They also find personal stories of people with hearing loss to find encouragement and give them the feeling that they are not alone and can live successfully with a hearing loss.

Please help me in congratulating Tanya Williams as the 2019 recipient of the HLAA-FL JOAN ANDREWS SCHOLARSHIP (see below). Tanya has been a dedicated member of HLAA for many years, serving as the State Chapter Coordinator. She has been instrumental in rebuilding HLAA-FL during the transition of leadership period in mid-2018 to present. She has not yet attended a national convention and she is eager to participate in that conference. Congratulations Tanya, well-deserved.

Thank you to all the candidates for their applications and for their service to HLAA-FL. Thank you also to the contributions from the daughters of Joan Andrews, who have made this scholarship possible.

TANYA WILLIAMS - WINNER OF THE 2019 Joan Andrews Scholarship

The Joan Andrews Scholarship

From the Joan Andrews Family:

On behalf of the Andrews family, I want to thank you and the HLAA-Florida members for continuing to support the Joan Andrews Scholarship, which honors Mother’s work and her memory.  Knowing her, she would be most proud of the daily work involved in fulfilling the HLAA mission. To have a deserving nominee for the scholarship speaks clearly to the earnest with which the Florida organization continues to provide access to information and services to its membership.

I know that I can speak for my sisters when I say that we will always be grateful for the opportunities and assistance provided by the HLAA organization to our Mother’s successful journey through her many years from hearing loss to deafness and, ultimately, to her cochlear implant.

We were pleased to be able to contribute to the Scholarship fund the year following our mother’s death.  Our combined intent is to continue to make an annual contribution ($600.00) to support the Joan Andrews Scholarship.

Although we will not be attending the convention, we will be there in spirit.  I believe our mother will be as well. Again, thank you and the entire HLAA-Florida Board for your hard work and for preserving the integrity of the scholarship that so aptly honors our dear Mother.

Jane Smith, Judy Waldrop and Sally Long
